Woman Sues Willow Creek For $50, 000 Over Failure To Respond To An Alleged Abuse Claims
A woman has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois, stating that the church leaders have failed to respond appropriately to her after she alleged of being sexually abused as a teenager in the 1990s.
According to her lawsuit and the recent reports, the woman was about 15 years old then when she worked in the church’s C.A.R.S. Ministry, one of its programs that provided vehicle repairs and assistance to people who are in need. She alleges that a man working with the ministry engaged in an inappropriate conduct toward her during that particular period.
The grown woman, who is now an adult has therefore chosen to remain anonymous, claiming that her family informed someone connected with the church about what had happened. She further alleges that th church leadership was fully aware of the situation but chose not to adequately address it or ensure that she was protected.
The lawsuit as well alleged that the man in question was temporarily removed from his responsibilities or position before he was eventually returned back. The woman says she was not directly involved in the church’s response and did not receive what she considered an appropriate acknowledgment of her experience.
Her attorney who filed the case is currently seeking for more than $50,000 in damages. The lawsuit also raises questions about how the church had handled a reported case involving a minor during that period.
Willow Creek has declined to discuss the specific allegations because the matter is now in litigation. In a statement reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the church said it remains committed to the safety, dignity and care of people in its community and will address the claims through the legal process.
NOTE; The said allegations have not been proven in court, and the lawsuit has remained pending as of the time this article was written.
