Former Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse Undergoes Liver Surgery, Adjusts Cancer Treatment
Former U.S. Senator Ben Sasse has shared a new improvement update on his battle with stage-four pancreatic cancer, saying the doctors were able to remove some significant amount of cancer during major liver surgery last week.
54-years-old, Sasse, revealed sometime in December 2025 that he had metastatic pancreatic cancer and was initially been given only three to four months to live. During the period of that broken news, surgery was not considered an option. But his latest update marks a significant change in his treatment journey.
According to the reports, the surgery was performed at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While the procedure to successfully remove the cancer from his liver, subsequent testing brought more difficulties. The doctors find out that the tumors were more advanced than previously believed and had developed resistance to his earlier treatment.
Sasse further stated that, his medical team will now change his treatment approach and use more aggressive chemotherapy to target the remaining cancer.
Despite facing so challenges, the former senator focused on gratitude. He has put up a post to thank those praying for him and expressed appreciation for the additional time he has been given to spend with his family.
Sasse has numerously spoken about his Christian faith throughout his cancer journey. In his latest message, he specifically thanked God for the “extra time” to spend with his family while he continued fighting the disease.
He also praised his wife, Melissa, his three children and the medical team caring for him, while maintaining his characteristic sense of humor during a difficult season.
