Brian Sauvé Says Women Should Not Be Allowed Access to Social Media, and If Allowed, They Should Be Properly Monitored
Christian pastor and podcaster Brian Sauve has sparked a renewed trending controversy after he argued that women should not have unrestricted or unsupervised access to social media space.
Sauve, the pastor of Refuge Church in Utah and the hosts of The King’s Hall podcast, made this comments during a recent discussion with fellow pastor Eric Conn. The conversation which brought about this trending topic focused on what the two described as the “feminization” of American society and their views on traditional gender roles.
During the discussion, Sauvè stated in his opinion that, he believes women should either avoid social media or use it within what he described as a “walled garden,” where a man would monitor, oversee or control what accounts they can access.
In that same discussion, Sauvé said he has access to his wife’s social-media accounts and has personally blocked thousands of accounts he feels not comfortable with. He explained that he has attempted to limit what she encounters online, he then described the arrangement as a curated social-media environment.
He further explained that society has come to regard some certain practices as normal when, in his own view, they are totally not. Among the examples he mentioned was women having unrestricted access to one another through social platforms.
His comments are part of Sauvé’s broader advocacy for patriarchal family and social structures. On his personal website, he identifies himself as a Reformed Protestant Christian and describes himself as patriarchal.
His remarks have further generated criticism because they place significant restrictions on women’s independence and online activity. Sauvé has previously faced public backlash over comments about women’s social-media posts, including a 2022 controversy that prompted the hashtag #DearBrian on Twitter.
The latest comments from him, have drawn attention to Sauvé’s interpretation of gender roles, marriage and Christian social values, while explaining or highlighting the continuing debate over how religious beliefs should influence the use of modern technology and social media.
